Papilio
Papilio is a line of furnishings for break out and relax areas produced by B&B Italia in 2009. The series is created by the Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa.
Papilio’s design has streamlined and harmonious shapes. The name Papilio translates from Latin as «butterfly», and the appearance of the chairs resembles this image. Naoto Fukasawa explains: «The back has two wings between which the head rests and which protect it." It seems that the Papilio model is carved from a single piece of material in the form of an inverted truncated cone.
The collection is made of high–quality materials: the inner frame is made of steel tubes and profiles, and the filler is made of Bayfit elastic polyurethane foam. The upholstery of the chairs can be made of leather or fabric, available in a wide range of colors.
The Papilio collection is extensive: it includes large Grande Papilio armchairs complete with a footrest, more compact versions of Papilio Piccola chairs and miniature Papilio Mini, low and bar stools, as well as a bed.
